Rainy Day Sound Story

Introduction to The Rainy Day Sound Story

Hello storytellers, a sound story is a special, immersive experience designed for SEN learners, helping them explore the world through sound. This story, The Rainy Day, focuses on the learners auditory sense, using simple rhymes, gentle rhythms, and carefully chosen sounds to create a rich and engaging experience.

To set the scene, deliver the story in a quiet, dimly lit room with minimal distractions. Encourage learners to relax and listen carefully. For ease of delivery, a soundboard is provided at the end of this post. Simply click each button at the right moment in the story to play the matching sound effect. These sounds enhance the storytelling, making it an engaging sensory experience for every learner.

The Rainy Day Adventure

Rain falls down with pitter-pat,

Drip-drop sounds on my hat.

(Sound: Light tapping to mimic raindrops.)

Big grey clouds fill the sky,

Soft wind whispers, passing by.

(Sound: Gentle blowing to represent the wind.)

Little boots go splash, splash, splash,

Jumping in puddles with a splash.

(Sound: Hands clapping softly to simulate splashing.)

Umbrellas open with a snap,

Keeping dry beneath the flap.

(Sound: A quick ‘snap’ to mimic an umbrella opening.)

Boom, boom, goes the thunder loud,

Rumbling from the dark grey cloud.

(Sound: A deep drum or a low hum to imitate thunder.)

Raindrops dance, a pitter-pat song,

Let’s all hum and sing along.

(Sound: Humming a simple tune to the rhythm of the rain.)

Rain slows down, sun peeks through,

A rainbow shines with colors new.

(Sound: A gentle chime to signify the rainbow.)

Birds are singing, chirp and tweet,

Their melodies sound soft and sweet.

(Sound: Play a recording of gentle bird songs to conclude the story.)
