Pirate Sound Story: PMLD/EYFS

Here’s a simple rhyming pirate-themed Sound Story designed for engaging PMLD or calming early years learners. Each verse is accompanied by suggested sounds and sensory effects to enhance the storytelling experience, such as the gentle lapping of waves, the creaking of a ship’s wood, and the distant call of seabirds.

We are big pirate fans at Inclusiveteach. This sound story fits in with our other Pirate teaching activities. The story invites young listeners to join a fearless crew of swashbuckling pirates, setting sail on a grand adventure filled with treasure maps, hidden coves, and playful sea creatures, making it an immersive auditory experience that sparks imagination and encourages interaction.

Pirate Sound Story Adventure

Pirate Sound Story: PMLD/EYFS

Verse 1:

Sailing on the ocean blue,

Captain and his trusty crew.

(Sound: Play gentle ocean waves.)

Verse 2:

Hoist the sails, the wind does blow,

Off to find the gold below.

(Sound: Play wind blowing.)

Verse 3:

Spyglass out, a land in sight,

X marks the spot, treasure bright.

(Sound: Play seagulls calling.)

Verse 4:

Digging deep into the sand,

Chest of gold within our hand.

(Sound: Play digging sounds or gold coins counting)

Verse 5:

Treasure found, we dance with glee,

Pirate jigs beside the sea.

(Sound: Play cheerful accordion music or a lively sea shanty.)

Verse 6:

Sun sets low, the sky aglow,

Back to ship, it’s time to go.

(Sound: Play pirate ship ambience.)

Of course, if you want to add more sensory elements to the Pirate Sound Story these suggestions should be easy to find and implement in your session. If you liked this story I would really appreciate a social share.

  • Wind Blowing: Use a fan to create a breeze.
  • Seagulls Calling: Play recorded seagull sounds or use a seagull puppet.

  • Pirate Tune: Play a lively pirate song or use an instrument.
  • Night Sky: Dim the lights and use small LED stars or a flashlight to simulate stars.
